Some of my favorite childhood memories consisted of summer visits to the water parks in the Wisconsin Dells so when we were invited to check out Kalahari Resorts and convention center, I couldn't wait to take Berit! This girl is a thrill seeker and water bug all rolled into one so I knew this would be a dream come true for her. She had also never stayed in a hotel before so this was an extra special experience for her.
Kalahari Resorts is only about three and a half hours from the twin cities so it's the perfect weekend getaway for us! Right away when we arrived I was impressed with not only the size of Kalahari but also the atmosphere. Safari is such a fun theme and they did an excellent job of carrying that feel throughout the entire establishment.
We picked the perfect weekend to go since it was hot, hot, hot here and the water parks were the ideal spot to be. As soon as we checked in around noon, Berit wasted no time getting ready and heading down to the pools. We checked out the outdoor one first which was Berit's favorite since not only were there so many different pools and activities to choose from but they also had a DJ so she could show off her dance moves for prizes. Girlfriend loves herself a dance party. Brandon and I enjoyed that there were food and beverages outside since we hadn't stopped on our way up and were long overdue for a meal. We could conveniently charge everything to our room which made it so much easier to not have to bring anything extra with us to the pools. Berit's favorite outdoor pool activities were the water slides (of course), the lazy river and the dancing.
Next we headed inside to check out the indoor pool and it was equally as massive! I loved that there were so many different pools each geared towards different age groups so you could pick and choose what you wanted to do. There was even an indoor/outdoor hot tub bar! There were so many different slide options you never had to wait in line for too long and there was always something new to experience!
After we wrapped up swimming for the day we decided to get a bite to eat before the Tommy Bartlett show which we got complimentary tickets for from Kalahari. If you aren't familiar with the Tommy Bartlett show (because i wasn't) it's "the best show on H2O", a fun water show that includes water ski/jet ski stunts and tricks. It was a completely unique experience and we all loved it!
Berit absolutely loved getting to stay in a hotel for the first time. she got a kick out of being able to watch TV in her bed and declared the next day, "that she had the best sleep of her life".
The next day we checked out at 11am but left our bags in the car so we could swim for a few more hours (they allow you to use your wristbands for the entire day even after checkout which was great!) Ber spent a few more hours in both pools and then we headed out. On our way home we swung by the Timbavati Wildlife Park, which we also got complimentary tickets for thanks to Kalahari. Berit really enjoyed seeing all the animals and even got to feed and pet the majority of them. Right next door to the Wildlife Park there was the cutest little candy shop, Goody Goody Gum Drops, so of course we couldn't leave town without stopping in quick.
It was the perfect little two day getaway and something we will definitely be doing again next year. I loved that Kalahari had the entire experience in one place with their pools and indoor theme part but also offered off site activities too. They had so much to do that we weren't able to see it all out and can't wait to go back! Next time we will definitely be checking out more of their theme park and other activities they have to offer!
